This Jackanory Story takes us back to a time before Eko was old enough to come and live with us
I was able to watch Eko formally known as Wash grow from the moment he was born with regular updates, photos and videos from his breeder Sam, I'd booked him (a male puppy) approx 18 months before he was even conceived
Photo Description - A studio portrait of a very cute young Eko the Golden Cocker Spaniel sitting on a white chair with a white background looking at the camera with a calm confident expression 📸 This photo was given to me by Eko's breeder, if you're the photographer that took it please DM me and I'll add a credit But our search and subsequent wait for Eko to join our little family had been so much longer, my list of wants for our second dog was extensive, most importantly of all was that both parents had to be health tested under the KC/BVA schemes |
By the time I finally got to meet Eko in person he was around 6 weeks old I already knew a lot about his personality, that he was the bold, cheeky one with great problem solving abilities, but his little odd white sock is what finally did it for me, it made him so unique from any dog I'd had previously
As he's grown Eko's white facial markings have become less pronounced as his spots started to appear, but his white sock still remains bold and bright with only a few little naughty spots as we call them
Photo Description - A very recent shot of a grown up Eko the Golden Cocker Spaniel sitting out on the common showing just how much his colouring and markings have changed since he was a puppy |
This year we're hoping to get Eko's induction assessment done to join Canine Generated Independence so he can follow in Boris's giant paw prints as my assistance dog, his original assessment in April 2020 was cancelled due to COVID and Lockdown
I'm so behind about getting Eko's induction done due to my parents various health problems as their needs came first, but if I can achieve nothing else this year I'd love to get Eko started on his path to becoming a fully qualified assistance dog
Life has certainly been made a lot tougher for me since Boris's early retirement, but his health and welfare must come first
I should add that whilst it's not a legal requirement to join an organisation to train your assistance dog, owner trained dogs have exactly the same legal rights in the UK if they mitigate the handlers disability, it's my choice to join an organisation and work within a structure of regular assessments

Everything until its time, wishing well. Thank you fore your vissit at my place
ReplyDeleteThank you, this is so true xxx
DeleteWe have friends who train service dogs and it is a very long, tough process. Good luck getting yours trained to help you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, yes the training was pretty intense to get Boris to qualification with all the log keeping, producing video evidence and travelling for the face to face assessments, but it was definitely worth it for the independence it gave me.
DeleteKnowing that Eko would one day hopefully be Boris's successor, a lot of his task training has already been started although not assessed yet.
If/when Eko successfully passes his induction assessment we will then have to start logging all our weekly training and refresher training sessions for the required minimum of 120 hours that CGI requires (being members of IAADP) before he's qualified to do public access wearing the CGI purple jacket xxx
I can't imagine anyone not loving, or enjoying being assisted by you Eko ~ so we send best wishes to you and Mum as you move forward toward this goal. P.S. we have a personal affection for any who sport special sox, it's just kind of our thing!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much and so pleased to hear it's not just me that loves the uniqueness of an odd sock xxx
DeleteOh do hope all goes well with the training of Eko ~ sweet, sweet doggie and great photos ~ Xo

Have a fabulous day and weekend, Dawn. Scritches to your babies. ♥
Thank you for stopping by FFO. I have linked you up so all the others can see just how darn handsome this guy is. Have a very nice day today.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Eko with us.
ReplyDeleteEko is just adorable with that one white sock. Good luck in your journey getting Eko qualified as an assistance dog. I hope you share what that entails with us in another Friday face Off. Happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely adorable dog. I hope he qualifies to become a service/assistance dog. His white sock sure makes him unique.
ReplyDeleteOMG, it's been years since I have talked to you Dawn. I am Izzi's Mom ... Sadly Izzi passed in 2020, but I see Badger Boo, though retired, is still with you. Love your little Eko and I am guessing he will be a wonderful service dog, white paw and all. I hope you continue to post with Rain so we can keep in touch. I am too old to bring another new pup in my home, it wouldn't be fair to them, but my Granddaughter bought a mini Aussie named Mazie and though she is unlike Izzi personality wise, she does remind me of her. I get to dog sit when they are in town and it is a wonderful thing. So glad you are well and I look forward to hearing more from you.
