Jackanory Part 16 - When Boris met Eko

The first time Boris met Eko 💗

As I recall Eko was around 5 or 6 weeks old when we took Boris to meet him for the first time

Only a few weeks previously Boris had been brutally attacked by another dog whilst working as my Assistance Dog and it had badly knocked his confidence around other dogs, which was worrying as we'd had Eko booked since long before he was a twinkle in his daddies eye

Would Boris be able to cope with a new pup in the house at this critical time, would Boris ever be able to return to work as my Assistance Dog, at this point we had no idea what the future would be

Boris wasn't sure what to make of this confident and outgoing little pup and was wary of him at first, but by the end of their meet and greet Boris was starting to realise that Eko meant him no harm and was actually rather fun to be around and was wanting to play with him

Video Description:- Boris the Black Cocker and Eko the Golden Cocker puppy. Boris really wants a soft toy on the floor but he's worried about Eko. Boris then cautiously picks up the toy and drops it at my feet before Eko then decides to reclaim it as his own and Boris moves off to let Eko have it

I'm so pleased we were given this wonderful opportunity for Boris to get to know Eko on neutral territory before we were due to collect him, rather than just arrive home with him in Boris's safe space

Boris was so pleased to see Eko the day we brought him home and it's been wonderful to watch their friendship blossom over the years

Eko is still the outgoing one and Boris is still wary of meeting strange dogs, but with Eko by his side Boris is a lot more confident. He no longer feels the need to bolt off into the undergrowth to get away if we see a strange dog approaching us out on walks

Boris now happily remains by my side with Eko as we move off the track to allow strange dogs to pass us, occasionally I have to ask someone not to allow their dog(s) to approach us and for the most part people do recall them away

Boris and Eko are like chalk and cheese, but yet they're so perfect together

There's no doubt in my mind that a lot of their great relationship is due to their original introduction and Boris was never put in the position to feel unsettled by this unknown puppy suddenly arriving in his home and life before disrupting it
